NGO Origin
Before the formation of Dr. Tarunnum Memorial Trust, Dr. Hamsavardhini carried out charity and other social activities in the name of “Lalithambal Mandali” in 2018. But, by the grace of god, Dr. Tarunnum Memorial Trust was formed in 2020.
The story of the NGO’s formation in the founder’s words:
“Dr. Tarunnum was a colleague of mine. We had worked together for two and a half years. Tarunnum was soft-natured, humble, and kind. She used to help everyone in anyways possible to her. I haven’t seen another person so genuine and compassionate as Tarunnum.
She was 42 and unmarried and looked after her parents. She had three other siblings an elder brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister. Their brother used to say that Tarunnum was the glue that held their family together.
In 2020 things took a dramatic turn for Tarunnum. After she was feeling discomfort swallowing food, I suggested she get it diagnosed. She was diagnosed with Oesophageal Cancer. Tarunnum underwent three sessions of chemotherapy and almost battled out cancer. But unfortunately, she contracted COVID-19 and passed away in May 2020.
Since October 2020, I've been trying to register my trust in the name of Lalithambal Trust. But, it constantly got delayed due to one reason or the other. Maybe it is the way of Lalithambal to guide me.
On a fine day, when I had a conversation with Dr. Tarunnum’s elder brother, he said about doing something to continue the good deeds of Tarunnum. That is when it struck me. In an instant, I decided to name my trust name to Dr. Tarunnum Memorial Trust.
As if Lalithambal had cast her magic, as soon as I applied for the NGO’s registration under the new name, it got approved in a day. And thus, Dr. Tarunnum Memorial Trust was born.”
